Thara Memory's American Music Program
Wit Andy Stokes & LaRhonda Steele
Waterfront Blues Festival
Portland, OR.
July 4, 2014

Another year of WBF recordings. Recorded from KBOO FM in Portland, OR. A great lineup again this year. I was looking forward to Greg Allman's set, but he had to pull out due to sickness. Oh well, I wouldn't have been able to share him here anyway. Seems to be much more DJ talking this year, interrupting some music. I just left it in rather than trying to edit each show. Feel free to make any changes you wish for personal use.

I may need help with some of the set list's as I don't know all the bands.

Enjoy, twofthrs

Thara Memorys Pacific Crest Sinfoniettas American Music Program teams up with Portland soul belters Andy Stokes, LaRhonda Steele and Tahirah Memory and other special guests for a set of Nothin But the Blues to close the festival main stage before the July 4 Fireworks.

The PCS American Music Program is a nationally recognized leader in educating 7th-12th grade students in American music. Students in this magnet program are recruited from culturally diverse backgrounds throughout the Portland, Oregon metropolitan region. The programs goal is not only to perform the music of the blues, swing, jazz and contemporary American culture (including, but not limited to Ellington, Basie, Coltrane, Armstrong and Davis) but also to imbue its finest qualities in the representative lives of the students, their families and the community.

Under the direction of acclaimed Trumpeter and Grammy winner, Thara Memory, the Pacific Crest Orchestra regularly competes in and wins student competitions across the country, including The Monterey Music Festival, Essentially Ellington at Lincoln Center, The Lionel Hampton Festival, Swing Central at the Savannah Music Festival, and many more.

American Music Program students leave High School with advanced performance skills and a deep understanding of the music art form. This pre-professional training opens the door to social, cultural and global identification and allows students to experience a more meaningful connection between their lives, community, school and the world.

Because of their rigorous training, American Music Program students go on to receive scholarships to attend the countrys top music colleges, such as The Juilliard School, Berklee College of Music, Manhattan School of Music, The New School for Jazz, Oberlin College Conservatory, and many others. AMP alumni have become celebrated music professionals. The most notable recent AMP alumni is double Grammy winner, Ms. Esperanza Spalding.
