Comments:
This is the perfect audience recording combined with a great performance. Simply stunning. If you only have one recording of the reformed Band, make it this one!!!
Thanks to whotrader for the raw files which whotrader obtained in a trade direct from the taper in Japan. All I have done is track them. Thanks to the now unknown taper.
This show is incorrectly recorded as being from Osaka on The Band tape archive.
For some reason The Band had an affinity with Japan and the crowds there seemed to love them. Although the original quintet never went there, the reformed Band + Rick and Levon solo went several times (at least until Rick's drug habit landed him in a Japanese jail!).
There was a short tour there in 1994 by The Band:
29 April Tokyo Kōsei Nenkin Kaikan, Shinjuku, Tokyo
30 April Tokyo Kōsei Nenkin Kaikan, Shinjuku, Tokyo
1 May Kanagawa Kenmin Hall, Yokohama
2 May Nippon Seinenkan Hall, Shinjuku, Tokyo
4 May Club Quattro, Shibuya, Tokyo
Recordings also exist of the Club Quattro show but neither the recordings nor the performance are even close to the quality of this show.
