This is really awful quality, there's so much wrong with this video you have to look for yourself to believe it. I'm no Monk expert or collectioneur, but I couldn't find ANYTHING about this concert, not even a mention that it took place, so I assume it's pretty rare. Luckily the audio is - aside from the heavy buzz - pretty clear and stable. I hope this post will inspire someone to upload his own version in better quality.

THE TAPE
I received this VHS tape from the late Hugo De Craen with some other jazz concerts on them that can be found elsewhere. I'm in PAL-land - without NTSC equipment - but I believe the VHS tape is in NTSC. My VCR's have NTSC playback though, so I could watch it on my TV. Or not really, because it was mostly black signal with some warbled purple Monk in between. After some hesitation I decided to try and make the best possible rip I could do. I tried various combinations of my playback-, correction- and capture-hardware, and after 6 rips this is the BEST I could do.
Aside from the picture quality, there was also the problem of signal standards. VCR's that offer NTSC playback do so by converting it to a kind of PAL signal, called PAL60 (or NTSC433?). Most TV's can display this format perfectly fine, but my capture card couldn't. There are apparently only a handful of capture cards that do, mine didn't, but I could capture in PAL format and have something to show to you. I probably messed up the framerate completely, since I think PAL60 runs at 30fps and I only captured at 25fps. I also had to cut of 100 lines from the bottom where there was just a mess of noise and leftovers from the image above. The result is somekind of NTSC AVC/mp4 video with a 25fps framerate.

THE CONCERT
seems like a Japanese color TV broadcast. The closest I could find was a mention here with the same line-up: http://www.monkbook.com/sessionography/sessionography-1970-1975/
The tracks are different though, so probably from a different date around this period? First 'I Mean You' with the quartet, then a short interview with Thelonious Monk, then he plays 'Round Midnight' piano solo. 15 minutes in total, but the end seems cut off...

Hereby I provide a lineage for this video:
Source: TV? -> ... NTSC VHS?
Lineage: Panasonic NV-FS200 (NTSC playback=PAL60 / line TBC=ON) -> (S-video) -> Panasonic ES-10 (TBC through) -> (S-video) -> Diamond VC500 capture card (VirtualDub2, PAL @ 25fps capture to FFV1 lossless video)
Encode: cropping (96 lines from the bottom to make it like NTSC) -> x264 CRF=20 interlaced, using Selur's Hybrid. Delayed the audio 260ms with Yamb.
The result is an interlaced AVC video with 480 lines, but a 25fps framerate. I have no problem playing it in MPC-HC, I hope you won't have any trouble too.
