Well, I'm finally getting around to digitizing my 700+ cassettes (at my wife's insistence--she wants them out of the house), so I'm going to start posting some goodies here. I taped many a show in the Toronto area from the late '80's to the late '90's, and also recorded a lot of radio broadcasts, mostly from CFNY, 102.1 in Toronto. Hope you stumble across something you like, or even a show you were at!

They Might Be Giants--Compact Disc World, Eatontown, New Jersey, Oct. 17, 1994

So, even though we lived in southern Ontario, my girlfriend at the time had bought a couple of tickets to see TMBG in New Jersey, because that was the only show announced at the time (see separate torrent).
We're walking around Red Bank the day of the show, just seeing the "sights" and doing some shopping. This was before any of the Kevin Smith films, so it didn't really mean anything to us at the time. We did shop in the huge music store they filmed part of "Chasing Amy" in later, though. Anyway, all the stores we went into were playing some classic rock station, except for the retro store, which had on an alternative station. Ironic. It was a good thing though, because while we were there, the DJ came on and hyped up the show that night, and added to be sure to check out the in-store performance that afternoon at Compact Disc World, and gave the address. Amazingly enough, I had some idea where that was, as it was the same street our hotel was on. He didn't give a time though, so we just headed straight there, and arrived very early. We met some very friendly fans, one of whom had won a radio contest which gave her an autographed accordian and a pair of front row seats that she was picking up right there. She was thrilled to win of course, but was wondering what to do with her pair of 3rd row seats she had already bought. Well, since we had balcony seats, we bought the 3rd rows off her, and ended up selling the balcony's at face value to 2 separate folks who only wanted 1 ticket each. Win Win.
This show is a real treat. I highly recommend it for TMBG fans, and even if you're not, it's 30 minutes of pure entertainment. There's about 30-40 people there, for an intimate acoustic perfomance on accordian, guitar, snare and high-hat. Tape came out great, band were hilarious, crowd were enthusiastic, much fun and merriment were had. Thanks to the unnamed DJ in the forgotten retro store, otherwise we never would have even known it was happening.
