For the finale of their year-long monthly residency at Music of Williamsburg, TMBG performed back-to-back-to-back shows on New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day (complete Flood show), and this one, which featured the Tricerachops Horns on all songs but two — as Flans noted at the start of the first set, “If you hate horn-driven shows, this would be a pretty good time to split.”

Setlist is all over the map, though heavy on (duh) songs that spotlight the horn section (Spy, S-E-X-X-Y, Mr. Me). Some of the arrangements are nothing short of spectacular, and discounting one Flans goof (resulting in the Bee of the Bird false start) and some reverb/delay vocal weirdness at the start of a couple of songs in the second set, the performances are too. Great way to end the Brooklyn run before the band heads off on short UK and US tours, followed by some planned downtime for the bulk of 2016.

The line before the show was unexpectedly long, so I ended up pushed out of my usual spot in the center balcony and over to the left side balcony. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as the sound from ten feet away from the speaker stack was much better than in the back of the room, making this possibly my best-sounding recording of the four shows I captured this year. Enjoy, because I sure am!
