Thomas Dolby: Narration, Vocals, Instrumentation

Performance Notes:

The five-time Grammy-nominated musician and TED Musical Director makes his debut as a film director with the self-financed D.I.Y.
semi-fictional docu-drama "The Invisible Lighthouse". Dolby is no stranger to creative storytelling as the co-director of one
of the 80's most iconic music video, "She Blinded Me With Science". The director here intertwines a fantastical story of U.F.O.'s,
government conspiracies and clandestine military operations on a semi-secret island that bears "The Invisible Lighthouse" (an
actual lighthouse on the Suffolk coast of England) -

Dolby narrates the film while performing the score. No easy task. He successfully weaves many familiar songs from his oeuvre into
the soundtrack of the film as he tells the story about the Prodigal son returning to the place of his youth. The story is solemn,
romantic, witty and heartfelt: a worthy recipient of two Los Angeles D.I.Y. Film Festival Awards. Well done, sir. He played a
small Akai keyboard controller connected to his Macbook Pro. Thomas performs a solo rendition of one of his most recent solo
compositions "Evil Twin Brother" afterward.

Recording Notes:

A fairly solid recording throughout. Levels had to be boosted considerably as the recording was very quiet. Because of this, I
resisted the urge to performing any equalization for fear of introducing any uncessary hiss. The recording is very clear and
fairly immediate. There is a fair amount of dynamic range though the frequency response of the songs is fairly narrow with a
large midrange hump. All thanks go to the O.T. as I sadly could not attend either of the night's performances due to work
commitments. He did an admirable job for his first outing as a stealth taper.

Note:

Some may ask... why make an audio recording of a film? Well first, this is Thomas Dolby after all. Second the story is imaginative,
creative and compelling and plays very well without the visual elements. The historical context around the film is quite interesting
and the musical interludes are clever and well executed. Enough said! Get it!

Note to mods:

The soundtrack and narration to this film was performed live by Mr. Dolby, himself.

And now for something really cool...

Please support the artist by attending one of his live shows or purchasing his excellent new album "A Map Of The Floating City".

A must for fan's of: Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of "War of the Worlds", Alan Parsons Project's "Tales of Mystery and Imagination",
Rick Wakeman's "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" and of course previous collaborator Roger Waters' "Radio Kaos".

Enjoy,
