TIFT MERRITT - Paradiso, Amsterdam, February 15 2011

This is my recording of Tift Merritt's opening set for Iron & Wine at Paradiso in Amsterdam. A fine solo acoustic performance featuring lots of her great songs, but unfortunately the Iron & Wine fans weren't interested at all. Their conversations, falling cups and slamming doors were louder than the music. Tift tried to get the audience silent by playing a song unamplified, but without any success. According to a review of Iron & Wine's show, Samuel Beam made the audience apologize for their behaviour several times when Tift joined in for a few songs.

Because all of this, this is no doubt the worst recording I've ever made. It's just about listenable, but it is full of background noises and conversations from the audience. Because of the show's incredible dynamics I had to use lots of compression to make the volume level acceptable, unfortunately this also brought the hiss up to a level that a lot of people will find annoying. You have been warned. But since I don't get to see that much Tift Merritt around here and the recording features a new unreleased song, I thought this would be worth sharing for the fans anyway.
