IIRC, Tinsley was touring in support of his "Storm Warning" CD
I almost didn't upload this concert but then relented. Immediately after taping this
show, as I was walking out of the venue and back to my car, I was really vexed.
There had been several assholes in the audience who could NOT keep their mouths shut
and I was convinced that the MD was ruined. Throw it in the garbage. I listened
to it once all the way through and got pissed off all over again. At one point, for
a short time, it sounded like one of the morons was right beside my microphone. His
voice was crystal clear. I tossed the MD into a shoebox and forgot about it. Fast
forward 10 years. I was going through said shoebox and found this and decided to
listen to it. To my amazement, it sounded really great with the exception of the
short periods of close talking. I had been sitting only about 15 feet from Tinsley
and had a great location. So I decided to up the show for the enjoyment of all (?)
the Tinsley Ellis heads on Dime. The show's almost 11 years old and he plays some
songs that I never heard him play again after this show.
I found out that TE was playing a place called Gypsy's in downtown Myrtle Beach.
It was located on a side street and to the best of my knowledge doesn't exist
anymore. It was what used to be called a supper club ; not exactly the best venue
for any kind of live entertainment. There was a small area in front of the dining
area where the band played. There may have been a small stage about three inches
above floor level. I had a great seat for taping but the place was so small that
there was no room to move in case idiots started talking, which is exactly what
happened about four songs into the set. These jackasses walked in and promptly
started talking while Tinsley was playing. No respect at all. I'll put up a
sample of the worst of the blabbing so you know what you're in for. After a while
they either left or shut up, I don't recall which. There were some talking women
but they were more distant and weren't really a problem. Tinsley put on a hell
of a show that night, playing many of his standards as well as some old blues
treasures like Tracks 2, 10, 11, 17, 19, 20 & 21. If you're a blues fan, you
NEED this show. He played two sets that night and I believe that I got the whole
show. I left right after he played the final song of the evening b/c I had to
get up for work the next day and had a 1.5 hr drive ahead of me. If he played
any tunes after I left, I don't know. AFAIK, this is the complete concert.
That's about all that I have to say on the subject so let's get this show on
the road.......
Finally, no buy, no sell, no mp3. Please seed this as long as you can.
Please trade this freely as it is very rare. This show will be a welcome
addition to any Tinsley Ellis fan's collection. I will post a few samples
to help some of you decide whether or not to download this, but believe me,
the show sounds really good except for the brief periods of close-up talking.
So, as Mr. Natural is so fond of saying, have fun, don't freak out and enjoy
the concert !
