1978 was the height of the outdoor rock festivals, festivals stretched coast to coast with a core set of artists appearing at multiple events. My venue was the Cotton Bowl in Dallas where I attended the Texxas World Music Festival (Texxas Jam) in July '78 and about three weeks later Fleetwood Mac headlining a four band lineup.
Four World Series Of Rock shows were planned to be held in the Summer of 1978 at Cleveland's Lakefront Stadium. The first taking place on July 1st featured The Rolling Stones and also included Kansas and Peter Tosh, the second took place on July 15th headlined by Electric Light Orchestra and included on the bill Foreigner, Journey and Trickster. The third 1978 World Series Of Rock was to take place on August 5th headlined by Fleetwood Mac with support from Geils, Eddie Money and Bob Welch. However, the third event had to be postponed shortly before the date when Lindsey Buckingham became ill.
Fleetwood Mac being one of the biggest bands in the world at the time was rescheduled for August 26th, this resulted in the cancellation of the 4th event scheduled on that day which was to be headlined by Bob Seger with support from Todd Rundgren/Utopia, Blue Oyster Cult and The Cars.
For the re-scheduled event, Geils dropped out and was replaced by Todd Rundgren/Utopia and The Cars while retaining the originally scheduled Eddie Money and Bob Welch in the lineup.
JoeRay was not able to attend the festival and lent his equipment to a friend. His friend captured 3 sets, Eddie Money, Bob Welch and this Utopia set.
JoeRay's friend did a nice job, it's up close but did require a some heavy lifting on external audience noise removal.
Thanks as always to goody for his pitch excellence and to JoeRay for keeping the master tape safe for all these years and doing considerable work on the tape which made my part a whole lot easier.
