Notes: This was a house concert in a private home in North Berkeley which has a small performance space downstairs, sort of a ballroom with a little stage at one end. For this concert there was seating on the stage and main floor, and the piano was on the main floor. There were about 40 lucky people in attendance. The artists graciously allowed me to record. The microphones were positioned about a meter from the end of the piano, facing toward the pianist. As the recording rig was near the performers and I didn't want to be obtrusive, I set the levels at the beginning of each set, and did not monitor them throughout. Because the first set got louder as it went on, the recording is a little hot with some clipping on the loudest passages, so the second set sounds better, but overall the sound quality is pretty good. I had been to a similar Tom McDermott concert in this same house about three years ago, and so I was very excited to have the opportunity to record this show. It was an unexpected bonus to get to hear performances by David Thomas Roberts and Frank French, who's music I was not previously familiar with. Thanks to David for organizing the event, and to Kirsten and Blair, our hosts. This show was dedicated to the memory of Judy Backhouse.
