Notes:
balls' notes: this Petty show was crammed in the middle of the first Coachella (Tool/Rage/Ben Harper/Crystal Method), 4 Panic shows, 4 Gov't Mule shows, 2 Page/Crowes shows, A Perfect Circle, and Lenny Kravitz (not necessarily in that order, yes, all taped except for some of the Panic, I think the other Panic masters were recorded over). the Hollywood Bowl, imo, is an uncomfortable (tiny alotted seat spaces in upper level bleachers), echoey venue, but the tape somehow overcame all my bitching. had just started using 'metal' (type IV) analogs in the ol' D-6, with Dolby, and I must say the deck did a great job of capturing the show. a solid, professionally played show with tons of hits for TP fans, Tom gets progressively intoxicated as the show progresses (or so I believe, just listen to his banter before "Jammin'"), but I give him a pass as it was the final show of the tour leg, if not the tour (?). this show *may* have been on dime (not sure, if so, it was nearly a decade ago), but I've since gone back to the master tapes (fresh transfer in March '15), and spent about 3-4 hours matching tape side volume levels, reducing handclaps, etc. got the normalize in Audacity right up to -1.0db, and it sound pretty great cranked on both my home stereo and tinny laptop. see if you agree....THANKS again to Humbug for uploading the capture, and I'm pretty sure there's more to come....
