NOTES:
Footage of the performance of track 6 "Nina's Dance" is available on YouTube.
There is footage of a couple of other tracks attributed to this festival, so I
do not know if this is a complete set, or if those tracks were taken from another
performance (either at this venue or at some other -- Scott speaks between songs on
the You Tube videos (here he does not) and mentions playing the night before...
From a http://www.jazzfestivalpraha.com/2014/history/
"In 1968, the anniversary celebration of the first five years of the festival
was planned and the audience, that had only one chance to see foreign jazz musicians
in Czechoslovakia, was looking forward to another feast full of stars. From the festival,
which was scheduled for October 1968, were finally arranged only two concerts
world-famous Tony Scott and young and talented Felix Slovacek, because of instability due
to invasion of Czechoslovakia by Warsaw Pact in August."
A Billboard Magazine from 1968-12-21 reports that the festival was originally going to feature
only local musicians, but in the end Tony Scott, Sandy Brown, Maynard Ferguson, and the Illinois
University Jazz Band also performed. The festival ran on two days, November 20th and 21st. The
article mentions that Tony Scott invited Felix Slovachek to perform with him on one number.
There is a bootleg DVD with Maynard Ferguson and some Tony Scott tracks. There is also
footage online of Sandy Brown's entire set.
