Toon van Vliet & Zoot Sims
Laren (Nick Vollebregt's Jazzcafé), the Netherlands
31 March, 1974
In 1974, Dutch tenorist Ruud Brink (born 1937) received a (Dutch) Edison award for his LP "Teach Me Tonight" (CNR 657.508, recorded June 1973, Nederhorst den Berg), with Henk Elkerbout (org), Peter Nieuwerf (g), Rob Langereis (b), John Engels (d).
For this occasion, a party was thrown at Nick Vollebregt's Jazzcafé, Laren (the Netherlands), Sunday, 31 March, 1974. His "tenor colleagues" Toon van Vliet (1922-1975) and Zoot Sims (1925-1985) played with a Dutch rhythm section, and Dutch NOS radio recorded it.
A few weeks ago, someone gave me this private CD of an NOS (re?-)broadcast, anyway aired after 1985 (since both van Vliet and Sims had passed away at the time of this particular broadcast). Radio announcer is the late Michiel de Ruyter, the program is Dutch NOS "Jazz Platform". This is most likely the composite of two successive week broadcasts (tracks 1-6(a) and tracks 6(b)-11, respectively).
The private CD had the incorrect labelling "TROS Sesjun broadcast", probably due to the well-known Laren venue of Nick Vollebregt. I did some re-tracking, e.g. the CD had an "empty" track of about 10 seconds in the middle, and boosted the volume in Audacity
Enjoy!
