1972-xx-xx Paris(?), France "Pop Club" Radio Program Show (M1-AM)
*~* Carefully remastered without EQ *~*
01. Les marins
02. Tout le monde est pareil
Total Time ::: 8:30
::: Quite listenable miked radio speaker recording. Samples available for audio purusal or arousal.
::: Warts: NOT MANY! Bit of recording set-up distortion. Few mike bumps & electric pops & bit of reception static but mostly repaired.
::: Many thanks to the French Gentleman for tapin' & sharin' & DIMER unclemeat for layin' it on me! Good folks.
::: Article on the band in French at: http://www.jukeboxmag.com/images/magazines/pages/302_p28.pdf
::: I don't know for sure that all the Pop Club pregrams were recorded in Paris, so the location is not confirmed.
::: 1972 is a likely guess. Tape labeled '72-74 but group supposedly disbanded in '72. #2 is a live version of their penultimate 45 (issued '72, as was the last).
Recording Information ::: unknown reel-to-reel recorder (or cassette deck) & microphone(s) -> master off-air miked radio speaker mono master reel (or cassette) -> original taper's 1st generation mono reel-to-reel.
Playback 2013(?) ::: 1st generation mono reel-to-reel -> Edirol UA-1EX interface -> Cool Edit -> wavs -> flacs.
Remastering 2014-03-xx ::: flacs in TLH -> wavs -> Audacity [normalisation to remove DC offset, fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, bump, pop, click, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, speed seemed spot on, NO equalisation] -> CD Wave (track splits) -> flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> yr ears. First uploaded week of 2014-04-05.
The group started with Romano, Texier, Locatelli & Huser, but soon had 6 people. Then their vocalist, Huser, left just before their only album was recorded (they also had 3 non-LP 45s). Libretti had been in Martin Circus, but the rest were jazz musicans. An online description says "guitar-dominated progressive jazz-rock with some good folk influences". Right after the LP came out, Libretti left & Yves Choart joined. The album was released in 1971, tho' their 1st 45 was out in 1970. The group had no live releases except for 2 instrumental live tracks on the (boot?) CD reissue of their only album. However, these 2 songs from Pop Club both have vocals. The first track was on the record but this live version is almost twice as long.
Line-up (unconfirmed) ::: Some guesses for instrumentation & personnel. The band was down to a 4-piece here & I'm not sure who'd left, perhaps Hayward. Also, tho' I can't read French, it looks like Libretti had left & had been replaced by Yves Chouard on guitar.... Album instrumentation is very mixed, so some of the following is certainly not correct. ::: Henri Texier - electric bass, vocals // Georges Locatelli - lead guitar, vocals // Aldo Romano - lead vocals, drums? // Michel Libretti (? likely replaced by Yves Chouard) - guitar, vocals // Chris Hayward (gone?) - flute, keyboards, percussion, vocals.
Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.
DimeTravel 018 ::: Thanks to the original taper (The French Gentleman) & the one who helped keep it alive & shared, DIMER unclemeat! ::: Corrections welcome ::: XXXXXXXXXXXXCOMMENTSXXXXXXXXXXX. Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. Yers truly, Knees
Do whatever you want with it except sell it, 'cause that ain't cool!
