We are pleased to kick off a series of releases from a long time West Coast taper/collector that recently passed away. He transferred his extensive archives to CDR years prior to his passing and then passed it to a close friend. His friend has been involved in the Bay area music scene for the last five plus decades and understands the importance of getting these historic shows out to the collectors community. We are working closely reviewing the shows and researching current circulation as well as possible upgrades.

The trend of uncirculated performances continues with our fifth release featuring Tower Of Power on a four night, six show run at the Circle Theatre in San Carlos. In 1976, Tower Of Power was a hard working band and seemed to be everywhere playing multiple night stands headlining clubs and theaters as well as opening for the biggest comedians of the era. For this six show sold-out run they take the stage in support of the night's headliners "Cheech & Chong". On October 1st they would open for George Carlin in Las Vegas.

This series of shows was heavily promoted as evidenced by the large number of ads we've included in the downloads. Though no one ad indicates exactly how many shows they played it appears they opened the stand on Thursday 9/23 with one show at 8PM then playing two shows at 8PM and 11:30PM on Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th. We do not know which show this performance on the 24th comes from. One of the included adverts indicates on Wednesday 9/22 a Sunday 9/26 performance at 7PM was added due to popular demand.

The performance here appears to be from the same taper that captured our second release, the Tower Of Power performance at the Old Waldorf in 1977. It is almost identical in quality and contains the same type of cuts between songs which results in a couple of small cuts to the start of songs. The included review of the 9/23 Thursday night show would lead us to believe this is TOP's full set running at about an hour.

The Circle Star Theatre had a long history of hosting plays, comedians and musical acts.
Opening in the early 1960's, the 3,743 seat venue was named for it being a theater in the round. Unlike similar venues across the country the stage had the ability to rotate in either direction without limit due to an innovative system that supplied electrical and audio to and from the stage. Early in it's history it primarily hosted Las Vegas acts such as Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin and Liberace. Running into financial issues in the mid-1970's it was kept afloat by booking more popular funk and soul acts of the era. The theatre eventually closed for good in 1993, caught fire in 1997 and was demolished to make way for a complex of office buildings and a small hotel.

There are a number of folks we are indebted to for access to this exciting new archives, the anonymous West Coast collector, may he rest in peace, his friend that had the motivation and understands the need to get these historically important shows into circulation before they were lost forever and a huge thanks to dime member davmar77. He did not currently have the bandwidth to facilitate such an undertaking at this time and put us in touch...this is how dime should work.

Also, a big thanks to Goody, our pitch master, for his continued to support of our historic releases.

Dimers don't wait until it's too late to get those archives out into circulation.
