I just received a new batch of Americana master files from Italy recorded by taper RS.

This one jumped out immediately, I could not find a copy in the bot archives and it appears nothing from it has been released. If it does circulate it's doesn't appear widespread.

Though most decades were a tough time in Townes life, 1994 was particularly tough. On May 2nd his divorce from Jeanene was finalized and essentially lost all his songwriting and royalty income. The divorce decree awarded "undivided 100% interest in all of the Husband's right, title, and interest in and to the musical compositions, including but not limited to the copyright and all renewals and extensions thereof for the United States of America and All countries of the world". Townes lost the rights to all 126 Townes Van Zandt songs. He also lost "all royalties due the Husband as the so called 'writer's share' of the above referenced compositions including all revenue paid from any publisher, administrator or licenses and all revenue, including but not limited to bonuses, payable by any performing rights organization, including but not limited to ASCAP".

Townes retained ownership of the "1989 GMC Truck and Camper, 1984 Honda Shadow Motorcycle, and the 1983 Starwind 22 foot boat and trailer". The one thing of value Townes as able to retain was "sole ownership in all oil lease and mineral rights presently in his name acquired through inheritance". The "old money" was kept in the Van Zandt family. Townes as also ordered to pay $1,045 per month in child support.

Townes' income was essentially now limited to preforming, this required Townes to be on the road for much of the rest of his life.

Even though Townes had gone through detox in June 1994 as with the numerous times Jeanene tried to get him dried out it didn't stick. It was a bit of a crap shoot which Townes would show up, the November 30th show in Cesena was a relatively good night. Townes puts on a solid performance, coherent with mostly strong playing, yes on occasion he stumbles due to drink but it's not nearly as evident as would come later.

As much as I love Townes Van Zandt, many of the mid to late 1990's shows are hard to listen to, this one is not one of those and shows the moments of brilliance Townes could still muster even during the roughest times of his life.

Thanks as always to goody for tidying this one up and MR for supplying yet another series of exclusive master tapes.
