It is still running on the tracker, and was actually 176 times snatched - BIG THANKS, HJ !

In addition to the complete "Live At The Mountain Stage" concert from 1987-05-31
there was the ~13 minute long rebroadcast of Townes' Mountain Stage 1995-01-08.

THIS ONE HERE is the COMPLETE original 1995 FM broadcast, aired on February 24, 1995...

Was too busy at the turn of the year, and therefor missed checking several hundred
torrents - i did this over the last few weeks, and could not believe what i read in
this Monutain Stage upload by our friend 'schwinn': a largely unknown TVZ show...

Checking my collection, i found the complete concert,
a DAT trade (-> clone1) from later that same year -
AND NOW IT'S HERE FOR YOUR PLEASURE !

Mountain Stage with Larry Groce - since 1983
==================================

Their motto still is:

"Where Musicians Come To Play"

http://www.mountainstage.org/

This one here is the third (and last) time Townes played "Mountain Stage" -
after 1987-05-31 and 1991-06-16, it was the first showcase in 1995, recording
date January 08, the FM broadcast date was February 24 - and on the bill:

Townes Van Zandt,
Deborah Holland,
disappear fear,
Tom Ball & Kenny Sultan

http://www.wvpbmedia.com/docs/ms/MS_Guest_Artist_List.pdf

Townes played three songs at the beginning (that was also all of the
rebroadcast, about 2 years later...), and another three at the end -
the final encore was a Hank Williams, Sr. coversong with all the
artists and their host Larry Groce together on stage, including
TVZ singing the 2nd Verse...

AND NOW, LADIES & GENTLEMEN,

FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELTS,

CRANK UP YOUR STEREO & START GRINNING !

TOWNES VAN ZANDT (the artists)

Cultural Center Theatre (the venue)
Charleston (the city)
West Virginia (the state)
USA (the country)

January 08, 1995 (the recording date) - February 24, 1995 (the broadcasting date)

Mountain Stage is a two-hour music radio show produced by WV Public Broadcasting and
distributed worldwide by National Public Radio (NPR) and the Voice of America's satellite
radio service. Hosted by Larry Groce, the program showcases diverse music, from the
traditional to modern. It is recorded before a live audience, usually at the Culture
Center Theater in Charleston, West Virginia. Created by Andy Ridenour, Larry Groce and
Francis Fisher, Mountain Stage originally aired in 1983 and in August 2009 recorded its
700th episode. The radio show begins with its theme, "Simple Song", written and performed
by Larry Groce, who also serves as artistic director - he believes that all music is related,
so the program showcases diverse music, from the traditional to the brand new, including
roots music to jazz. Usually, four or five musical guests will appear on any given show.

as far as we know NONE of this torrent was used commercially...

the complete TVZ show:
==============

All songs by Townes Van Zandt unless otherwise specified.

01. ...Introduction by host Larry and Townes § 1:17.20
02. The Hole 4:28.27
03. Katie Belle Blue 2:37.03
04. Marie -> crowd noise 4:19.69
05. ...second intro: welcome back... 0:44.22
06. Pancho & Lefty 4:04.00
07. ...joke: three penguins % 0:34.13
08. Lover's Lullaby 4:08.12
09. To Live Is To Fly 3:40.12
10. ...thanks for being there / radio host Larry Groce... 1:20.50
11. You Win Again $ 3:32.35

total: 30:46.38 minutes

notes:

§ -> first 54.50 seconds taken from the rebroadcast uploaded by 'schwinn',
carefully denoised, EQed and boosted to get the transition "more smooth" -
this seems necessary to get the full fun, as "my" DAT recording started
in between with host Larry's very last words, just before Townes overtook...

% -> according to Townes the "fastest ever version" of this fine joke

$ -> full band version of this song with all the artists PLUS host Larry
Groce performing on stage, fades out at the very end of the song...

musicians:

Townes Van Zandt - lead vocals, acoustic guitar

and additionally on the last song, #11:

Deborah Holland,
disappear fear,
Tom Ball & Kenny Sultan
and
Larry Groce

recorded via airwaves to DAT

the recording & transfer:

PLEASE NOTE: DON'T ASK ABOUT MORE SPECIFIC DETAILS IN THIS SECTION HERE !
I'm getting old and cannot remember each detail of every trade, ever ;-)

My dear buddy hanwaker usually always writes about "his" uploads
of other people's recordings: "Don't ask - I'm just the messenger !"

SO THERE'S NOTHING MORE TO ADD - TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT...

FM > airwaves > unknown tuner > unknown DAT recorder > DAT master > DAT clone1 (SONY DT-120, 60 meter tape)

and what lonetaper did (nearly nothing, as usual...):

the transfer:

DAT clone1 > Tascam DA-20 II, digital S/P-DIF out > Oehlbach Hyper Profi Opto Set (optical fibre, TOS-Link) >
> Behringer SRC-2496 Ultramatch Pro
(Ultra-high-resolution 24-Bit/96 kHz A/D & D/A and Sample Rate Converter & Dropouts-/Jitter Remover) >
> 16 bit, SP 48 kHz converted to 16 bit, SP 44,1 kHz > > Oehlbach Hyper Profi Opto Set (optical fibre, TOS-Link) >
> Terratec Aureon 7.1 PCI - Dolby Digital Live Soundcard with C-Media CMI8768 Soundprocessor Chip, digital S/P-DIF in >
> Motherboard with AMD Multicore Processor, Serial ATA Interface > CD Wave (recording) >
> Harddisc Western Digital with Thermaltake HD Cooler (EVER had a HardDisc burnout ??) >
> lonetaper's secret box of miracles # > CD Wave (tracking) > Traders Little Helper (level 6 encoding, align on sector boundaries,
test encoded audio files, check audio for SBE, show audio file details, etc.) > FLAC > DIME

# -> Fully edited version of this show by MWM 2011

-> so NO additional EQ'ing was used here, and none of those compressors,
Sonic Maximizers or other psychoacoustic processors - just the pure DAT.

the only addition to the DAT recording was an added patch at the beginning - my
recording started with host Larry's very last words, just before Townes overtook,
so the first 54.50 seconds had been taken from the rebroadcast uploaded by 'schwinn',
carefully denoised, EQed and boosted - just to get the transition "more smooth"...

this upload here comes directly from the "Men With Microphones" archives.
if you want to know more about, check the old uploads...lotta stuff to read !

BIG BIG THANKS TO HJ schwinn for the fine rebroadcast upload from January 01 !

And if there's some interest, maybe there is MORE TO COME...
it just depends on YOUR demeanor, and lotta useful comments ;-)

PLEASE support the artist - and buy all his available stuff...
Check out his websites on the net - THERE'S PLENTY TO FIND !
