TOWNES VAN ZANDT
- November 30, 1996 -
Bahnhof Langendreer, Bochum, Germany
** Audience MD-master, MWM 0165 **
>> TOWNES LAST GERMAN CONCERT - FOR DIEHARD FANS ONLY...
- almofada #003 - new, completely untraded source - EXCELLENT SOUND << with samples
Preliminary remark 1:
VERY SPECIAL THANKS, from the bottom of my heart, to my friend,
fellow DIMEr "almofada" for opening his incredible live archive.
Working in the music industry business, back then, he was not only
able to get pretty close to the musicians, during self organized
meet'n'greet actions, instore concerts, promo interviews, etc.pp..
He also had the balls to record a big amount of truly incredible
sounding concerts from the front row, just for his own enjoyment.
HIS COLLECTION WAS, SO FAR, COMPLETELY UNTRADED AND UNCIRCULATED.
This is "almofada #003" - MORE TO COME...but NOT by lonetaper...
Preliminary remark 2:
There is ANOTHER known recording of this show, "sound quality average / good",
and according to the DIME-bot, it was upped here a few times in the past:

THIS UPLOAD HERE IS DIFFERENT AND HAS NOTHING TO TO WITH THE ABOVE ONE.
IT'S A BRANDNEW SOURCE, SO FAR COMPLETELY UNTRADED AND UNCIRCULATED.
Preliminary remark 3:
As far as i know NONE of this recording was ever used commercially.
This upload here comes directly from the "Men With Microphones" archives.
Including our friend's collections, there are are few thousand concerts,
and a damn lot therefrom completetly untraded. THIS ARCHIVE IS NOW CLOSED.

About Townes last tour:
Some thoughts of eye- and earwhitnesses, giving a fair impression...
1996-11-29 Underground, Cologne, Germany:
...
Townes was already quite wasted in Solingen (they tried to cancel that show on the very same day)
but Cologne was a real freak show. There was a good crowd there but half of them only came to see
him fail. And they got what they paid for. For me, it was one of the saddest jobs I ever had to do.
For many years I did not give the tape away, and when I finally did, I asked people to keep it to
themselves; however you know how foolish such a thought is; some do and some don't. And it's OK.
There is one valid comment here: this recording shows what alcohol can do. If only for this, this
tape must be heard. Noone will ever listen to this for pleasure. And believe me, I obviously was
at the gig, if there was a video... it is like a nightmare, I still (after more than 13 years) can
not get it out of my head.
There are some aspects about this evening that the tape can't tell, that make it even worse. The way
the business was handled (not in Townes' favour), the impression that someone was cashing in on his
name without caring too much for his health (anyone familiar with TvZ will know who I talk about).
And, at the same time, talking to Townes and learning that he was one of the sweetest persons I ever
met! And the lady accompanying him, how sweet she was! When you watched the two of them you realized
that with all the bitter effects of his addiction, love was still the greatest and sweetest thing
for him (or for both of them). A night I will never forget.

Bochum 1996 November 30 - on the different uploaded source:
The voice is gone, the guitar playing is gone, and Townes can't remember the
lyrics of his own songs. I bring this torrent to you with mixed feelings.
On one side - don't play this recording if you want to gain fans for Townes Van
Zandt. Please, play his studio albums if you want to do that, or interpretations
by other artists. This is a recording for the true fan only - to conserve a
piece of TVZ history. Read about this great singer/songwriter - there is plenty
of information readily available on the web - and you, discerning listener, will
understand why I ask you this. Jeanene Van Zandt herself has expressed her
doubts about these recordings on numerous occasions, and let's respect that,
too.
On the other side - I personally love this recording because of the strength of
the songs themselves, undiminished even though their composer stumbles and
falls. I love it when Townes' humour appears to have lasted until the end. I
think it a good and rewarding thing that I have heard it - it completes the
picture of Townes Van Zandt as I have seen him on about 8 occasions. It is a
fine recording, too.

...this is for the diehards only !
"p25texas" - December 30, 2007
Both, "marastha" & "p25texas", have large collections and share
quite regularely a lot of all kinds of Townes Van Zandt recordings...
Thanks also to dear fellow DIMEr "scdegraaf" - this here is FOR YOU...
Now boy's don't start to ramblin' round
On this road of sin are you sorrow bound
Take my advice or you'll curse the day
You started rollin' down that lost highway

Bochum (the city)
Germany (the country)
November 30, 1996 (the date)
Bochum is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, western Germany. It is
located in the Ruhr area and is surrounded by the cities of Essen,
Gelsenkirchen, Herne, Castrop-Rauxel, Dortmund, Witten and Hattingen.
In the postwar period, Bochum began developing as a cultural center of the
Ruhr area. Between 1960 and 1980, the coal mines all closed. Other industries,
such as automotive, compensated for the loss of jobs. In 1965, the Ruhr Uni-
versity was opened, the first university in the Ruhr area and the first to
be founded in Germany since World War II. Since the seventies, Bochum's
industry has moved from heavy industry to the service sector.

AS TED WROTE: I'm not the performer here, i do not own this music, so nobody needs my permission to take this to
other trackers, to repost it on DIME after this torrent expires, nor to do anything else with it, unless it's something
illegal or something that the artist forbids, in which case people are not allowed to do it even with my permission...
BUT, DEAR TED, A GOOD BREEDING SEEMS HARD TO FIND, NOWADAYS -
and even your harum-scarum words as moderator can hurt somebody...
A good friend (thank you, Sylvia !) in DIME would write:
I went through a lot of trouble to make this recording available for you.
If you want to remaster this recording and share it, please remember that
you are working on an edited version.
Dime allows alternative versions, I don't own the music, so I can't stop you,
but the correct thing to do amongst tapers/editors is TO ASK FIRST...
