Taper and Production Notes
This is becoming a yearly concert for me and I absolutely LOVE TSO. The musicianship, the stagemanship and just the powerful performance are all things I look forward to year after year. I've seen (and taped them) now from various places within the Giant Center and this year I was in the 6th row, far left hand side of the stage. While this was a great place to be up close and "tight" with the performers, it wasn't that good of a taping position. The speakers were above me and often would throw some of the sound OVER my head thus I'd get a little bit of an echo and some of the sounds were even lost. Compounding this was the fact that this was only TSOs 6th performance this year thus some of the kinks were still being worked out. And of course we had a talkative audience around me (at times). The result of all this is if you listen very closely to the recording, the sound will fade in and out on occasion...especially during the quiet parts and there is a bit of static (from cell phones I believe) but still, it's a great recording of a wonderful show. If you've never seen TSO before, I'd highly encourage you to. The best way to describe it would be if you threw Christmas music, heavy metal, spoken word and classical into a blender. That may not sound as tasty as a frozen margarita but trust me, it is.

The light show gets better and better ever year. The colored flames are really cool and I've only ever seen them at a TSO show. And the lasers are not the standard red and green but some shades of pink and I seem to remember a bluish one as well. The performers do a great job, in particular the wonderful voice of Jennifer Cella adds a certain touch to the show that really makes you want to hear it over and over again. If you do go, be sure to stay afterwards for the autograph signings. And as always, they are kid friendly.

This year I seem to have made "friends" with one of the ushers who was gracious enough to give me a copy of the setlist. While that certainly helped, breaking a TSO show into tracks can be an exercise in frustration. I "think" I have it right this year but one never knows.

One word of advice, listen to this show LOUD! The louder the better. Regardless of some of the issues in it, it's a great show and a great recording.

Merry Christmas to everyone from Simple Man Productions. May your Christmas and the New Year be full of good deeds, good music and much happiness.

And I'd like to give a special Merry Christmas to Neph from our wonderful artwork department. Neph does artwork for many other "production companies" and without him to complete the entire "package" I'm not sure we would be. Thank you Neph!
