When word came out that Clapton was playing a private gig in Greenwich
Connecticut I knew I HAD to go, not wanted to but HAD to. First step
was figuring out how to secure tickets which were only available to
Greenwich residents and employees. The search started with putting
out the word through social media and torrent sites. That resulted
in two hits of friends of friends willing to help. At the first
chance we bought 4 "Neighbor" tickets under 2 names for my NY music
friends J and E and a fellow taper who came in from Chicago. When
the general onsale went on it sold out lightning fast ($85 tickets)
but was able to secure 2 more. Those were passed on to the two people
who helped make our 4 ticket happen which was the right thing to do.

I flew out from SF on Thursday and arrived late Thursday night. I
stay with my friend J when I visit NY. Like my second home in many
respects. I got settled in and Friday was spent preparing for Saturday
since I fortunatately didn't have work to do. Friday night was dinner
with my college roommate from Freshman year at a friend's restaurant
at the new MoxyNYC Hotel. That was loads of fun catching up after 32
years. The restaurant is Legesea
http://moxy-hotels.marriott.com/nyc/timessquare/dining/legasea-seafood-brasserie/ .
If you are in NY and want a great meal I give it 5 stars. We met in
the bar and it was like old times. Funny thing is we reconnected when
I saw him downloading a show of mine on Dime and I fired off a PM.
Food was amazing and my friend took care of us an food kept appearing
from the kitchen. After dinner he brought us up the back way to the
roof top bar where we grabbed one more drink. When we left we saw a
line of at leat 50 people waiting to get into the bar. I was back to
the apartment by midnight and was off to bed alarm set for 7:30AM.
J got off work and got in later. At 4AM i woke up to him screaming
F&uck, F&ck F&ck and the sound of water. A pipe had burst and had
flooded the kitchen and bathroom. Luckily it was the cold water and
he was there to turn off the water. After cleanup and dealing with
the building owner we got back to sleep around 5:30. We had no water
so no showers and we packed up for the train to Greenwich. After some
confusion on the train stop we met up with everyone and took care of
tickets and parking passes and got in as the doors opened. Security
was a breeze. Chairs were down everywhere except in front of the board.
We were told no chairs even if they were folded which mean we would be
standing but never expected the enforcement of standing at all times.

First band (after some local acts) was Trout Steak Revival out of Colorado.
They were really good but the place in front of board was empty. I recorded
them in the heat. It was close to 90 degrees and humid. Not the 65 and no
humidity I m used to back home. Lots of drinking water and sweating.
I could see if I wasn't careful this was one of those shows where I might
not make it all day. I decided not to bother with Preservation Hall Jazz
Band and we grabbed seats in the "Neighbor" area where there was catered
food, drinks and picnic tables. I avoided the alcohol, drank lot of water
and ate some food. After the set finished we reclaimed our spot for
Tedeschi Trucks Band. They were a lot of fun and put on a great set.
Unfortunately we were surrounded by people who just wanted to talk.
As I am writing this I haven't tracked out the set but listening to a
bit of that on the Clapton set. By the end of the set the heat had started
to break which was a welcome relief. After the TTB set my friend wanted to
roll further back closer to the soundboard and I wanted to go a bit closer
to be in front of the entitled children of the 1% so we separated. As it
turns out I made the better move since talkers were everywhere.

At 8:15 it was showtime. The moment we were all waiting for. The intro was
great, God in Greenwich. The band comes on and plays a solid Somebody's
Knocking, Key to the Highway and Hoochie Coochie Man but that didn't signal
what was to come. Next was a version of I shot the Sheriff that I would
describe as delicate until the end when it really caught fire (unfortunately
during the beginning you can hear the entitled children of the 1% being
idiots) and then Clapton just blazed into White Room. At that point I was
exchanging messages hoping to not hear Layla since it was going to be acoustic.
We were hoping with Derek in the house that one more electric Layla could happen.
It was not to be. For me the highlight of the acoustic part of the show was a
great version of Lay Down Sallie. Lots of noise from the kids but listening it
wasn't a bad as I heard at the show. Out of the acoustic set was a great
version of Got To Get Better In A Little While. One of my favorite songs and
I really enjoyed it. After Wonderful Tonight came the biggest surprise of the
night. First version of The Core sine 1978. Wow, that was a treat. Set ended
with Little Queen of Spaded and Cocaine. During Cocaine J who was on the rail
said Derek was side stage with his guitar. For the encore Derek and Susan came
out to close the show with Crossroads. What an event. By the end I was so
spent that making it to the train station was an effort. Luckily we got a
ride and made it back by 1AM.

Again thanks to Bill and Lynn (whom I have never met) for the help and Paula and
Mike for helping make it happen through them.
