Twin Earth
September 21st, 2007
Red & Black
Washington, D.C.

Source:
Audio Technica AT943-SP (cardioid pattern) > Sound Professionals battery box (SP-UPS-1) > Roland Edirol R-09 (mic-in, low cut on & AGC off, saved as 16 bit 44.1khz .WAV) > CD-WAV (.WAV) > GoldWave (first track edited) > FLAC Frontend (tags + ReplayGain written) > foobar2000 (tags edited)

Some incidential edits were made in all three portions to remove angry-sounding static, and to balance levels throughout.

Location: House front-center, about ten feet from stage.

Taper: ZaPenguin (pjzyhfz02(AT)sneakemail.com or
http://db.etree.org/ZappaPenguin)

SOUND QUALITY: B+: Loud show, misleading levels, needing to use mic-in due to a leaky joint on the line-in. Result: Distortion. It's not too bad, but it's frustrating to me as a taper.

THE BAND:
Chris - Drums, glasses, Doug
Mike - Guitar, E-Bow, Doug
David - Bass, sweat, Doug
Franco - Guitar, lanky, Doug
Patrick - Engineer, resident mascot & Doug

MINI BIO:
"Twin Earth play improvised music with a definite heavy/psych bent. Improvisation brings a pure experience to the music that is impossible to achieve via usual, tired song structures. The music takes on its own shape, color, and life — it breathes. We make music for the moment, in the moment."

SHOW NOTES:

It's a month of the year, and we all know what that means - the members of Twin Earth escape from Arlington and weave their hypnotic trance upon an audience usually interested in drinking.

Tonight's show was superb. All Twin Earth shows, of course, are superb to my ears by the very nature of being by Twin Earth in the first place - but this show is in the upper tier, despite its all-too-short length (even with two minutes of sound checkery, this show is under the forty-minute mark). We get, in order of appearance: A brand new song chock full of beautiful drone guitar, the best segue the band has yet made, an angry Ultra Vires, a God that goes beyond Christ and becomes the Holy Spirit itself, and, finally, a Sky Below, gently bringing us back down to Earth, ears ringing and lips sealed in a dazed grin.

TRACK LIST:
01. Soundcheck [2:15]
02. New Song ("Dragon Riders") [6:23]
03. Ultra Vires [9:25]
04. tuning [1:00]
05. God [7:52]
06. tuning [0:58]
07. Sky Below [10:14]

Note: I heartily advocate removing the tracks labelled "tuning", so as to facilitate a gapless fifty-two minutes of musical bliss.

RECORDING NOTES:
Because I AM A JERK, the sound quality sucks. I have no other excuse. Expect distortion. For best results, enable ReplayGain, and if you have an option to "prevent clipping according to peak", do that too. If you wish you had ReplayGain and that option, download foobar2000. If you fancy yourself an audio engineer and wish to put some time and effort into fixing this recording - be my guest!

REQUESTS & REMINDERS:

Do not sell this recording. Do not buy this recording. Do not sell this recording, then buy it from yourself. Remind me to re-solder my line-in whenever you're bored.

Include this source information when trading.
