NOTES:
These were projects I organized via the Van-L discussion group in 1997 and 2001. Fans would record themselves doing their best cover of a Van Morrison song, put it on tape (or CD-R) and send it to me. I compiled all the entries into a single tape (1997) or CD-R (2001) that was then offered to any fan who was interested in hearing it via blank & postage.

Here I've remastered the entries by adjusting the amplification so that all would have a more even sound transitioning one to the other. I've also reconfigured all the entries to give the better entries more prominence and to alternate between acoustic & electric styles. The original compilations were in order according to their chronological arrival in the mailbox for the project.

The first 3 tracks on disc 1 I consider to be the best of the batch. "Moondance" by Brian Regan & The Boss Street Band is a professional sounding cover. The most original cover would be the bizarre version of "Rave On, John Donne" by Tom Dolan with The Society Of The Free And Easy which has to be heard to be believed! Imagine Captain Beefheart doing a jazzy, spaced-out trip-hop cover of Van the Man produced by Brian Eno. Eric Gerber does a nice bluegrass rendition of "Into The Mystic". Some other highlights are Ulrich Buehring's beautiful piano cover of "Tupelo Honey", Linda Beatty's smooth jazz karaoke-style duet on "Moody's Mood For Love" (technically not a Van Morrison cover, but close enough), and Eric Gerber (again) with a great cover of "Here Comes The Knight".

Special thanks to Mike O'Brien for the original CD-R transfer and mastering for the 2001 volume 2 compilation.
