1st of 11 nights UK tour, supporting new album ("which is not out yet"): 'Blues For The Modern Daze'
Of and running with the 2012 UK tour with a welcome return for Walter Trout & band at the Brook since their last visit late in 2010. Mr Trout celebrated his birthday with a packed (but not sold-out) crowd who were in fine form, so plenty of 'atmosphere' on this recording (but thankfully only minimal extraneous chatting). The usual frenetic guitar solo laden set includes 4 tracks off the soon to be released: 'Blues For The Modern Daze'.
The support act was the Mitch Laddie Band, and Mitch joined the band on stage during the reprise of the epic 'Catfish Blues' in order to trade blues licks with Mr Trout. Nice!
Recorded in my usual sweet-spot at The Brook, centre stage a little way back so that you get a mix of both the back line & the PA. The sound, as is usual from Mr Trout at The Brook, was punchy (i.e. somewhat loud!) but mostly quite well balanced, & my recording is very representative of the sound on the night. Play it LOUD to get the full effect!
For those interested - basic details of the mastering applied to my original Zoom H2 recording (using Wavelab6 & HarBal) are as follows:
A: EQ / Compression / Limiting (-0.6dB max) / Dithering to 16bit
B: fade in/out
C: track split
A note for any finicky audiophiles out there:
Mastering has been done to polish the raw master recording with the aim of enhancing the listening experience. If you prefer virgin recordings, unspoiled by any such amateur 'dabbling' then do not join in on this one. Be warned now ... I don't want any whinging! ;-)
But for the rest of you Dime'ers I recommend that you GO FOR THIS ONE ... you won't be disappointed!
I score the sound quality as 9 out of 10 ( = A- ); but hey! ... don't flame me if you don't agree ... & at least keep it friendly ;-)
If you have any comments, whether positive, negative or otherwise, I would love to read them ... don't be a lurker!
