Show Notes: As a longtime fan of The Band datin back to 1973, I felt a need if I was going to pick one of
The Last Waltz shows, it would have to be the last one hee in Nashville. With so many special guests that I
hardly ever get to see, this was a no brainer! All the shows my fellow tapers have captured and uploaded have
been great great shows, but the lure of this one was gnawing at me. I reached out to my buddy Alan (Ed in Training),
and he was on board. We got their in time for a quick bite at Martin's BBQ Joint near the venue. I prefer their
other location. The lne was out the door on this cold and windy night. We bypassed the line and found 2 seats at the
bar, in front of the giant screen for football. We dined on Giant Baked Potatoes Stuffed With Brisket, Cheddar
Cheese, Butter, Sour Cream, And Green Onions, along with a bowl Of Brunswick Stew. Picked up our tickets at
Will Call and headed inside to the lines with Airport Metal Detectors, as well as conveyor x-rays. I put my bag
in the bin and told the 2 attendants I was here to audio record the show and this was all my audio gear. I NEVER
opened my bag.
I headed straight for the soundboard cage as I bought a pair of tickets in the section 15' away.
I met Chris who Just finished sound check, and Graham who remembered me from taping Gov't Mule when he was sound
engineer. Graham was filling in as TW could not be there tonight. The soundboard was not in the back of the floor,
but about halfway back, and I was in te very front. I was happy as Arnold Ziffle in the mud to be in that spot.
The music was awesome, and sure enough, the guests started to roll out and Join in this glorious night of music!
I damn near melted when Emmy Lou came out. My first time seeing her was in 1974 with my buddies Mark and Eli as she
opened up for David Bromberg 2 nights in a row in Rochester, where we were going to school. Back then it was her
Hot Band, unreal group of musicians.I had tears in my eyes as the hair on the back of my neck stood up! My favorite
songs of the night were a 15 minute Who Do You Love, Chest Fever, Helpless, Mystery Train, Mannish Boy,
Evangeline, Forever Young, and I Shall be Released. Very little chatter and distractions on the recording as we
listened to it on the drive back home. Great to see Rayner, Carissa, PJ, Tracy, and Mike! I wish this Phrog
character/moderator, would open up and let folks make comments on torrents again. I think I have my text file in
place, as I took detailed notes during both sets. If I made any errors, feel free to get in touch at zmanatl at
bellsouth dot net. EnJoy!!!
