This was my holy grail. Now I am drinking out of it. There is absolutely nothing by this incredible band in circulation. I should know - I have been looking for a show by this line-up for 29 years (since I saw them at Max's a few weeks after this). And that song Pain has been stuck in my head the whole time. Well, not really, but still! This is post-Gangwar and pre-WK's Air Raid and very different stylistically to either. First of all the musicians are all amazing. Charlie Giordano is currently in the E Street Band, Bob Steeler had been in Hot Tuna: The Metal years, and Steve McGuire was a young guy from a Detroit band called the 27. No idea who the sax player who sits in is. All of their playing here (along with Wayne of course!) is stellar. Along with the strait-up rock you'd expect they also tackle a bit of funk and reggae. And then the material. Some of these songs made their debut in Gangwar. Some got tossed, never to be heard again. Some got re-written (Modern Romance became Junkie Romance, Valentino's Moon became Something Broken In The Promised Land). A few of em were demo'd up a couple of years later but sound totally different here. The recording? I burned it from the master cassette. I'd say it's pretty f-ing excellent. Itch scratched!
About The SKOTF: he taped many awesome shows in and around NYC in the 70's and 80's. He made copies for friends but most of his tapes have thus far escaped wide circulation...until now.
