This is an original audience recording by Poor_Yorick. The new, Wildflower Theater at Planet Bluegrass is a large, outdoor tent that’s winterized to accommodate cool-weather shows. During the fist set, we were seated 20 feet in front of the stage-left PA; mics clipped to my jacket. During the second set, the chairs were put to the side and most everyone was standing and/or dancing. We were still in approximately the same area by the speakers.

We listened (and shook) to some excellent bluegrass this evening. Along with a barbecue, there was also a roaring bonfire down on the St Vrain River, about 50 feet from the Wildflower Theater, just in front of the escarpment. I recorded the entire show except for the first song of the second set as we were engaged in a conversation down at the fire. The band really kicked in during the second set.

You’ll notice a constant, rather high level of ambient crowd noise throughout. Had I thought it detracted too much from the music, I wouldn’t have uploaded the show. Remember the context: Wayword Sons is a local bluegrass band at a very special venue that has recently extended its season by erecting this new theater that seats about 250. It was a very nice evening of acoustic music and folks were having fun. Of course, The New Belgium Brewery concession was there with many of their quality products just like is the case for the summer shows! We look forward to more cool-weather shows at Planet Bluegrass. Thanks to Craig and the staff at the Planet Bluegrass Ranch for organizing this event.

Enjoy,
