I spent some time with this concert. I had two versions of the same recording, the one shared in the past by Whotrader and the one by
Borispider. I prefer the Whotrader one, as it is less compressed and
breathes much more, maybe due to a less aggressive hiss reduction or
a smaller generation loss. Anyway, it was lacking the last two songs, that I
patched from the Borispider version.
I found out that the songs could benefit from a phase and speed correction, as all the tracks presented the following drawbacks:
-the two channels have phase inverted in the Whotrader version, weird sound coming from inverting one channel of an originally mono recording converted to stereo...
-a phase shift of few samples (5-8, depending on the track), easily eliminated.
-a constantly varying speed in the recording, affecting also the pitch of the songs... Especially the last songs were progressively slower and slower, so a proper adjustement would mainly affect the last part of the concert.
-a mild imbalance in volume of the two channels, easily adjusted.
-few thicks and bumps, mainly between songs, erased...
We now recover the mono character of the original recording, but preserving both channels, and withouth touching the equalization or dynamics. I retracked some songs, in order to place the spoken intros at the end of the previous songs, hope this is not much bothering...
It remains a rather mediocre, monoish and distant recording,
muddy and saturated when the music is too loud. Anyway, it is still listenable and enjoyable, now that the proper pitch and phase have been reestablished. I would rate the sound quality a 6-6.5/10.
For what I remember only few cuts (I well remember the central part of Bell Boy sadly entirely missing...), so it is an almost complete document of the first available concert of the Quadrophenia tour, and the public is in awe!

This is one of the first Quadrophenia shows before Helpless and The Rock were dropped. There was a version of this show posted on Dime a couple of years ago with "very, very poor" sound quality although it was a little longer than this version. Sound quality is a little sub-standard, but listenable - check the sample.
