TRANSFER/EDITING NOTES:
Here we have an excellent recording of The Who live during the '73 US Quadrophenia tour. This performance, which has appeared in many different forms over the years, in varying quality, appears here in what seems to be the best sound to date. Supposedly form the KBFH PREFM master reel, the sound is brighter and crisper than on previous versions, even slightly moreso than the commercial "Tales From The Who" bootleg on the SuperSonic label, which seems to contain PREFM and FM tracks. In remastering this recording, I have taken a few liberties which I think have improved the overall listening experience. As you can see from the original torrent info below, the tracklisting has been altered. Firstly, I removed all the radio ads and dj talk. To me, having these sections removed makes for a more smooth listening experience. I also combined tracks where 2 songs were seperated onto two tracks. To me this was an obvious edit to make. The channels of each track were reversed, placing Pete's guitar on the right and Entwistle's bass on the left, as it should be. I removed some anomalies such as clicks and pops very carefully. I adjusted the frequency response, cutting a few mid-low frequencies producing a muffled drone tone, and boosted mid-range vocal frequencies to bring Daltrey's vocals up a bit in the mix. It's been said that this recording is actually AUD sourced. Personally, I can understand this theory. Firstly, the audience noise is fairly loud, especially during quiet sections between songs when Pete/Roger are talking. If you listen to the stage banter, it sounds slightly reverberated and distant. This is inductive of an audience recording. Also, the vocals are low in the mix, similar to the Led Zeppelin Dancing Avecado bootleg of the '69 Fillmore show, which has been confirmed as an audience recording with two mics, close to or on the stage (probably aligned with the PA speakers), which pick up the instruments great but leave Plant's vocals behind, obviously because the mics are not getting the vocal from the house P.A. Regardless if this recording was made in such a way or not, it is still quite exceptional and the vocals are certainly much more present than that Zeppelin recording. This is, by and far, the best recording from the Who's '73 tour that is in circulation. I hope you agree that it has been improved upon through this remaster. Enjoy!

***** NOTE: I have listen this show as being from the Spectrum, Philadelphia, PA 12-04-73. It is also possible than the recording, or sections of it, are taken from the Washington, MD show 2 days later. This has not been confirmed so I will leave it the way it is until it is confirmed otherwise. *****
