TRANSFER/EDITING NOTES:
This recording, taken from Philadelphia in '75, is well known amongst Who bootleg collectors as containing an outstanding performance at the tail end of the last leg of The Who's 1975 tour. I have attempted, for personal enjoyment, to improve the sound quality of this recording as much as possible. For the most part, this is a consistent recording with a fairly balanced signal output from beginning to end. To me, the sound improves slightly on the second disc, and possibly even on the second half of the second disc. Regardless, this is a fairly typical sounding audience recording from The Who's 75/76 By Numbers tour. What this means, in my opinion, is an above average audience recording from the mid seventies. It's possible these tapes sound so good because of the sheer volume of the band! The Who had a lot of stage amplifcation by this time and were blasting out 110-120 dB every night on this tour. This is obviously beneficial to audience recordings, except if the taper is really close to the stage (IE. The 1972 Berlin tape! Townshend's guitar drowns out the rest of the band! The taper must've been close, and on Pete's side of the stage!). Anyways, this isn't the case here. I have remastering this recording and believe that it now sounds better and is more enjoyable to listen to. Having said that, the improvement is not drastic. This was a fairly good recording to begin with and can only be improved so much. I have rebalanced the frequency response, which had too much low to mid range frequencies. I have also mixed the channels slightly and amplified the recording somewhat. No noise/hiss reduction, limiting or compression of any kind has been used. I couldn't find any artwork for this show, so I decided to create my own with moderate success! Finding some mid 70's shots of the band that either I haven't used in artwork or seen in any other artwork was like pulling teeth. Nonetheless, I guess it servers its purpose. That concludes the notes on this one. I hope you appreciate my efforts and enjoy this alternate, and in my opinion, improved version of the blistering '75 Philadelphia show!
