Fanreports:

Massimo Favilli

The Band entered the stage at 21:15 as scheduled, but after 25 minutes (at the end of Who Are You) an unexpected downpour hit Verona and the show was suspended for one hour. When the Band resumed to play with Behind Blue Eyes it was evident that Roger?s voice was gone, he became very nervous and wanted to leave the stage. After 20 minutes of Pete?s insistence the show started again with a largely (and shortened) setlist in order to reduce Roger?s vocals. The Band played another hour for a total of 16 songs (no encores), but it was painful to see Roger without voice obliged to renounce to a lot of vocals parts (the most evident The Real Me completely sung by Pete).

Show begun at 9:15pm; after "Who are you", very heavy rain and the show was forced to be stopped. Audience took shelter in the passages under the terraces of Roman Arena. The rain slowed and show started again at 10:45. But after a few bars of "Behind blue eyes", Roger said "My voice has grown cold" and stopped the song, showing rage publicly and disappearing behind the stage. After a couple of minutes, Pete came on stage and told that Who were not in the conditions to go on with the show. While another man was translating in Italian, Pete's face lightened and he told "I might sing some songs myself" or something like that and asked to wait a little more. Then, at 11:00pm, everyone came back on stage (even Roger) and played until 12:10 under never stopping rain, doing only "rock" songs with vocals handled mainly by Pete. Roger tried to sing on "Pinball wizard", but the song was stopped before the end. At the end of the show, everyone was satisfied because band rocked! Roger left saying "I will come back with my voice!".

Show started at 9:20. I Can't Explain, The Seeker, Substitute, Who are you. Heavy rain, show stopped for about 50 minutes. Band back on stage but after 40 seconds into Behind Blue Eyes they stopped again and Roger left the stage since his voice was gone. Another 20 minutes intermission than Pete came out and told us they had to stop as Roger couldn' t sing: roar from the crowd so Pete told to wait for 10 more minutes. And after 10 minutes they were on stage again! They played for 60 more minutes. Pete took lead voice for most of the songs. No encore.
At the end Roger said "I' ll be back with my voice". After all a great (and strange) night for the return of The Who in Italy after 35 years.

The gig started at the scheduled time and was a rollercoaster of opposite feelings ... everyone was dead exited to finally see our heroes on stage and then exausted by the hard rain and by the long wait for the decision ... 'to go on or not to go'?! Then we were all happy again 'cause music was again on stage, and then worried for Roger's voice. We were also sorry for Roger, since he seemed really angry and annoyed by the lack of voice but also gratefull for the effort. Pete did a great job, playing and singing alone most of the songs. The energy was high and the band was massive. At the end it was terrific to see them live, putting all themselves to let us have the best show they could. We'll wait (hopefully not that much!) to see them again in Italy, hoping that they could feel our love and respect!
