Wilco back in Europe after just a short three months.
We wanted to visit the Elbphilharmonie since its opening so we took the chance, although this certainly
is not an auditorium designed for Rock Shows. Indeed, the acoustics in the hall has been praised and damned
in equal measures by press and audience. Anyway, what a gorgeous building this is, a triumph of contemporary architecture.
I was early with booking tickets so I could choose seats and decided not to go right in front of the stage but to take
one of the lower 'balconies'. View was spectacular, as you can see from the pictures included. Unfortunately, the sound
was not really great where we were sitting, with the voice buried somewhat in the mix. Still it was a very good show, as usual.
Good to hear some of the new "Ode To Joy" songs introduced in the set, although I have to admit that they need to grow on me.
But a late-show "Ashes Of American Flags", my favorite Wilco song, played for the only time on this tour, fully reconciled me ...
So now ... we're all looking forward to the band returning, hopefully next year !
