::: Slightly distant & noisy but quite servicable small club AUD of a VERY RAREly recorded vintage of Wizz Jones. Check samples for inhalation evaluation or a few quick puffs.
::: Warts: Taper shut off deck between songs with some early/late fades. Some bar noise & lots of mike rustling & bumps but they were worked on & most were removed or lessened, tho' some fixes of loud noises left a bit of a dullspot effect. Bit of clapping in #9. Fixed dropouts & dullspots but surely missed a few. HUGE improvement over the original recording.
::: (*) Unnamed folk club - this is how the tape was labeled.
::: Wizz played #6 as "Lazlo Feher" but it's also known as "Anathea" & "Ana Thea".

Recording Information ::: unknown mono equipment -> master mono tape -> 1st generation Maxell XLII-90 cassette, Dolby B on.

Playback 2011-10-15 ::: 1st generation cassette on Nakamichi BX-300 cassette deck, Dolby B on, azimuth & pitch adjusted, heads cleaned & demagnatized -> Tascam CD-RW900SL pro CD recorder -> CD-RW -> computer -> EAC secure -> wav files -> Audacity [normalisation to remove DC offset, channel/phase alignment, fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, mike bump, pop, click, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, light EQ] -> CD Wave (track splits) -> flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> yr ears. First uploaded week of 2014-07-12.

Line-up ::: Wizz Jones - acoustic guitar, vocals // ? (unknown male) - banjo, backing vocals (ONLY tracks 7,8,9). (So, who is it? a local friend?, another musician on the bill? Whoever it is knows "When I Leave Berlin" well enough & sounds like they've likely played with Wizz before.).

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.

DimeTravel 036 ::: Thanks to the original taper & trader! ::: Corrections welcome ::: If you are into Wizz Jones, this is WAY cool. There are almost no recordings of this vintage circulating (tho' of course there are the usual hoarders, or folks who simply don't realise what they have or can't deal with technology or trading. Please do consider contacting me regarding your recordings. I'd be happy totry to help get some of them out there). The taper continued to move the mike around thru the show, apparently holding it, but I was able to repair most of the noises to some degree or another. Still it ain't hi-fi. We get many songs Wizz never covered on his albums plus a set that is less than a third covered by him today. Unbelievably beautiful version of "When I leave Berlin" with Wizz joined by an unidentified banjoist (and singer). What about Bruce Springsteen covering that song in Berlin a couple yers back? Who woulda thunk? Perhaps the most interesting thing on the tape is "Lazlo Feher" which really fits Wizz's style in a most excellent manner. It was done by many folks, including Judy Collins, Dave & Toni Arthur, and Derroll Adams. While it was apparently part of the Wizz Jones repertoire for many years, to my knowledge this is the first recorded version to surface of him playing the song. "Mary Go Round" from the most amazing "Right Now" album is pretty cool as well - think it's the only live version to show up so far. Nice to have the vintage "City Of The Angels" recording. All round win here 'ceptin' the quality, but I think that's been fixed to a great degree & it's well worth hearin'. Have at it! Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. Yers truly, Knees
