Gig Notes:

The band were touring the Back To Land album. Local band Helicon were performing support duties.

Given that the band's last gig in Glasgow was three and a half years ago, there was an air of expectation and it was good to see a larger crowd than at the smaller Stereo back in 2010.

Wooden Shjips let the music do the talking. I think Ripley thanked the crowd a few times, but rarely says much else. However, who needs talk when the music is this good? Only disappointment was the relative lack of tunes from Back To Land - Ruins and Other Stars. I could have done without Buddy (Snapper cover), much as I like it, to make way for another new tune.

Recording notes and sound quality:

Recorded from near the RH PA, which certainly moves air! I had to down the midrange bass just a little and also boosted the volume a little. Due to the sound from the PA, there's a slight "boxiness" to the overamplified snare, but it's all clear enough, even the vocals were clearer than the Stereo show a few years back!

There were quite a few eejits near me and one or two people wandering past, so perhaps the odd bit of chat and a little phasing when they walked in front of me. Pretty sure the running water tape they played between songs had an effect on the drinkers in the place - lol. Nothing that would put you off listening to this though.
