When we heard that Yes would tour the UK in early '98, a small group of us decided to produce a permanent souvenir for this momentous occasion. Among us was an experienced taper, but we had no access to the "new" technology of the day, namely CD-r. To have invested in a PC was too expensive, and so I bought a minidisc deck, and a CD recorder. Two shows were recorded Manchester and Sheffield, having been busted at another of the shows and the tape being confiscated.

The recordings were transferred to the minidisc, edited, and copied to CD-r.

We were pleased with the results, but decided that we would only make 4 copies of each of the shows, and that these would not be traded. A two CD version of the shows were given limited circulation, with some of the applause edited out to make them fit on 650MB discs.

Later, I traded a couple of the 3Cd versions with a few close contacts.

So, my guess is that these shows have had a limited distribution. But I may be wrong.

In 2004, I was able to borrow the master tapes of these shows, and, having access to more up to date technology, was able to do a better job of transferring them to PC.

And here is the Manchester one, I hope you enjoy it.

Taped on TDK SA-Xs, using Sony Pro Walkman and Stereo microphone.

Analogue transfer by STEVE C using CD Wave from Aiwa AD-F850 Tape Deck into DMX 6Fire soundcard.
Sony Soundforge for hiss reduction, and Cool Edit Pro for amplitude adjustments and EQ.
Authored with CDWave and Feurio. January 2005

As is normal when using cassette tape, material is lost during changeover. Sadly, in the case of this recording, the ending of "And You And I" was missed. Rather than fade into the applause, it has been patched using 30 secs of material from the show in London on March 5th 1998
