The Zombies were cool way before "The Walking Dead."

The group was on the frontline of the British Invasion, giving us "She's Not There" in 1964 and "Time of the Season" in 1968.

But like good zombie, this group, which will perform Tuesday in Hallandale Beach, has excelled at coming back from the dead. The Zombies formed in 1962, only to break up by 1968. Then came three comatose periods: 1968-91, 1991-97 and 1997-2001. In fact, if not for the 1991 reunion album "New World" and the 1997 release of the 119-track compilation "Zombie Heaven," the Zombies would have been dormant for about 33 years.

Original members Colin Blunstone (lead vocals) and Rod Argent (organ, vocals) remain the foundation of the group. Both are 68, but neither has long nails, a blood-streaked face or a distant gaze.

The Zombies will play 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at Mardi Gras Casino, 831 N. Federal Highway. Tickets cost $15 for general admission, $30 for premium seating and $50 for VIP. Ticket-holders can dine from 5 to 10 p.m. for $10.95 at the French Quarter Restaurant and Bar's buffet, located on Mardi Gras' third floor. Call 954-924-3200 or go to MardiGrasCasinoFL.com.
