boombox's notes january 2006:
Received this in trade from a big bbhc collector who has been
collecting long enough that many of his shows are still on
cassette only. It is a slightly echoey recording with some
crowd noise near the taper, which comes through at times. Not
the best recording, so sonic perfectionists beware! It sounds
like it was recorded on a very cheap cassette recorder with
the internal mic and somewhere along the line there has been
some earth/static problems on the machine used for duplication.
Sound radically improves halfway through Sunshine Baby, however.
The bbhc official site lists a recording for 30th June which
lasts for 50 mins - don't know whether this one is the same as
that one, with the date on the site being wrong. This version
lasts nearly 39 mins, and has a few cuts during the crowd noise.
However, I've not seen it on any other trade list, hence my
decision to trade for it and then share it here on Dime.
Transferred to the pc via CEP2. DC offset was corrected and the
whole wave then normalised to -97db. Fades at beginning and end
were added and all was then split in CDWave before flac'ing at
Level 8 with SBE correction. No noise reduction, filtering or
graphic equalizer was used.
REMASTERED VERSION:
I toyed with the idea of trying to remaster this, especially to
get rid of the hiss and pops, but as most people here seem to
like getting the shows 'as is' and remaster themselves to
personal tastes, I decided to provide the original version.
However, having burnt the resulting waves to a CD for listening,
I decided to have a go at it myself.
For this version, I took out a little of the bass, at the same
time boosting the high end. I also used the click/pop and hiss
filters in CEP2. Resulting version is a bit more listenable to my
ears. Go easy on me - it's my first remastering attempt: all
constructive criticism is welcome.
Anyone else wants to remaster it, if you are pleased with the
result and are not going to share it here on DIME, please let
me know - I'd like to hear it.
Enjoy!!
