Crosby/Nash China Club Westhampton, NY 8/8/98 Great Sound

Alright folks, I was glad to see that many of you appreciated the McGuinn show. Next up in our "Goldfein raids his closet" series is this tasty little treat from our friends Dave and Graham. I received this tape shortly after the show and just digitized it yesterday.

This is an audience tape, but it's one of the best ones you've ever heard. It's a small club, but the sound is right up front. There are some noisy audience members, but they almost never distract from the music, which is sweet. The fellows are in a relaxed, joking mood; and even occasionally take a few friendly pot-shots at each other between songs. There are a few audible cuts between songs, but (if memory serves) no cuts during songs. There is some noise early on, but it's the club's sound system, not the tape. In fact, Crosby jokes about it more than once.

As I said we are in a small club. There's no rhythm section, and the guitars are usually electric. A wide variety are played, including what sounds to these ears to be a mandolin. In short, if you're a fan, you want this.

Note: the first minute or so of Long Time Gone had a severe volume drop, so I amped it up, but this caused a huge hiss problem. I filtered out most of it, but that still left substantial hiss. Being my first time remastering, it's not a perfect job, but it's still a lot better than the original tape.

Hope you enjoy...
