During the summer of 1987 with a totally clean and sober David Crosby, CSN embarked on their fairly regular summer tour and on July 19th rolled into Oklahoma City to play at the Frontier City Amphitheater. This was the one and only time I taped at this "venue" and as I recall it was basically a big open field with a stage plopped down on one end backed up to a small amusement park.

At the time of taping this show I had taped CSN 3 times, Stills twice and Crosby once, you can find one of the Stills shows and the exceptional Crosby show still active here:

As for this show, the thing I enjoyed about it was they showed a bit of versatility playing a few new songs and pulling out some tunes that I hadn't seen them play before (really enjoyed Stills "The Ballad Of Hollis Brown" for one). It's a solid show, probably not the best time I had ever seen them but well worth the price of admission, albeit the venue left a bit to be desired.

As for the recording, I recall that the sound set up was somewhat average and combined with the outdoor venue created a somewhat flat overall recording.
I have done a bit of work on the tape, pulled forward the high end and punched (the best way I can describe it) up the whole spectrum, please don't ask for specifics I go totally by ear. The electric set benefited from this "punching" tremendously and I am now VERY pleased with the result and feel it is to the point I can offer for all to enjoy.
The acoustic set also benefited but I'm much happier with the results of the electric set.

Known flaws, strangely during Suite: Judy Blues Eyes there is an unusual sound that is difficult to describe, the combination of what was emitting from the PA and I suppose how it was hitting my mics when he really laid heavy on the chords there is a sound sort of like rubbing something across a sheet of paper. I would have thought it was maybe something to do with my mics but it only happens during his chords and the vocals, etc sound fine. I wouldn't let this detour you as it is only really noticeable during that song (and ever so slightly in a place or two during Wooden Ships) but if "perfection" is your deal then I've let you know.
The last attached sound sample is of the above described section so no one is dissapointed.

Only other thing I recall is during about 5 seconds or so of Wooden Ships I had to lower the mics creating a slightly "muffeled" sound due to a wandering security gaurd that walked right in front of me. (As I've stated before, back then to get the quality you were totally exposed with mics out like a big white flag saying "look at me and these 2 footlong metal cylinders I'm holding up"!). It's minor and you can still cleary hear the music and it's only about 5 seconds long.

This is the first time circulating directly from the master tapes, I've traded it via cassette in the past but have not until now put the show on CD from the masters.

Mason Rufner opened and if there are any Mason fans out there I taped it as well and would be glad to post (his first release was a killer!)

As with all my audience recordings, lots of samples from start to finish of the show are attached so you know what you are getting before wasting the time or bandwidth and no one is dissapointed.

Enjoy!
