Description of recording as provided
by the taper:
"The David Grisman - Martin Taylor Jazz Quartet, with James
Kirwin, Bass and George Marsh, Drums. Saturday, Dec. 11 1999,
King Kat Theater, Seattle WA. Recorded using AKG C3000
(HyperCard X-Y) > Lunatec V2 > DA-P1; center of house 12
rows back. CDs mastered using DA20 > LynxOne > WaveLab >
Plextor. Only flaw: squeaky seats in the venue; not bad enough
to spoil the show or the recording. Two CDRs."
Next day review as provided
by
Donn Marshall on bgb:
"Anyway, the show was great. They did many of the standards from the recent quartet CD. The only "dawg" tune was "Dawgmatism". Martin Taylor is simply astounding, both using fingers and a flatpick. Does anyone know what kind of guitar he is using? (It is a beautiful arch top that he plugged in AND used mics for reinforcement.) They even switched instruments at one time and Taylor did a commendable job on mando (holding it standing without any strap!) with Dawg holding his own on guitar. From my wife: "Grisman facilitated the showcasing of Martin Taylor, guitarist extrodinaire. Having seen MANY talented guitarists Taylor is one of the best." "
