Deep Purple
Fairfield Hall, Croydon, UK
November 22nd, 1970
audience recording, probably off 3rd gen tape
==================================================================================
Some vintage 1970's Deep Purple again ... this time it's taken from a cassette which was given to me about two years ago by a German trader marked as a third generation copy from the master tape. Well, I cannot verify this but it's a reliable trader, so I think I can trust him.
It has a bit of historical significance as it's the first known Deep Purple audience recording done at the UK. All the other audience tapes from 1970 come from the European continent, mostly from Germany.
And there's a legend about "Wring That Neck" from that show clocking in at a record length of about 40 minutes. However, the guy who has measured that must have taken a tape running too slow. After correcting the speed of the recording (my tape runs a bit too slow too) it's about 34:30 minutes from the first to the last note, not counting the announcement and applause. However, that's still quite an impressive length for a single track ...
Sadly the quality isn't the best, but still listenable in my view. There's a lot of hiss - I already reduced it considerably, but if I had taken away more, it would have infected the music. If someone of you feels able to improve it further, go ahead !
