Based on known setlists (above) and the fact that Wolfgang’s Vault is now broadcasting a “Honky Tonk Women” from Nov. 12, I’m willing to bet that the 12th is the correct date for this show. (If anyone has a copy to compare this version to, please be my guest.)
Elton had only made his US debut a couple of months earlier on Aug. 25th at the Troubadour where he played 6 nights in a row before returning to the UK (presumably) to record Tumbleweed Connection which was released on Oct. 30. Next the band performed 5 East Coast concerts in Boston, Philly and Baltimore before heading out west for 1 show in San Bernadino, CA. and the 4 Fillmore shows. 2 days after the last Fillmore show, Elton and the band were in NYC at A&R Studios for the in-studio radio concert which produced the classic live album “11-17-70" (or as it was known everywhere else, “17-11-70"!).
This performance, only 5 days earlier, is very similar in feel and performance to that album - though that shouldn’t detract from your enjoyment of it one bit. Levels were a bit oversaturated on the original DAT transfer and were reduced to avoid any further clipping or distortion.
Reel Master > DAT > HHB CDR800 > Audio Cleaning Lab 2004 (for adjustment of levels and track ID placement) > EAC > Flac Frontend 8 > You!
