Noteworthy Playin' In The Bands

This is a collection of noteworthy versions of Playin' In The Band
played by the Grateful Dead. It is a revision of a collection
originally circulated on eTree in November, 2008. Because the guy who
seeded the original collection was a space cadet, it was seeded in two
torrents (the second adding a few sources omitted from the first one):

The original collection was closely based on a list put together by
Eric Wybenga and published in his book _Dead To The Core: An Almanac
of the Grateful Dead_. This revised collection includes sources from
Eric's list that were omitted from the original collection because I
did not believe I should seed them at eTree. It drops some of the
versions I used to "replace" versions I didn't think I could seed. It
also adds other versions that were recommended in the comments on the
original collection, as well as versions that I thought should be
added. Not all the great Playin's are here -- 73-12-02, gd73-11-17,
gd77-05-28, gd80-09-06, gd89-10-16, and gd90-11-01 (for example) are
all over in the Jam and Jam Sandwiches collections.

Remember, "noteworthy" does not mean "best". I welcome your ideas
about what should be included or dropped from the collection. There
could easily be a version 3.

Early in its life, Playin' was an excellent standalone piece that you
loved to hear at the end of the first set. By the end of its life,
Playin' had a hard time shaking the grip of Uncle John's band. In
between, it found some other interesting homes. When it worked as a
standalone song, I've included it that way here. When it belonged to a
longer jam, I went with it, trimming the jam in such a way as to
balance a desire to avoid musical violence against a desire to keep
the total size of the collection manageable.

The track names are self-explanatory: they list the date of the
performance, the SHNID of the source, and shortened names of the songs
included in the track. The music in these tracks is exactly the same
as the music from the source indicated by the SHNID. When necessary, I
joined the songs into jams using "shntool join", I snipped white space
from the end of the tracks and sometimes added fades using WaveLab
6.0, and then I compressed the files using "flac --best". I used
shntool version 3.0.9 and flac version 1.2.1.

If you have the first version of this collection, you should be able
to leech over it and only grab the changes: you'll have to rename the
old tracks first, as I've had to use six-digit SHNIDs i this version
of the project.
