Bob Dylan backed by The Grateful Dead
July 24, 1987
Oakland Coliseum Stadium
Oakland, California, U.S.A.

Got this from Dime an hour ago. Following Angrycrow advice and thinking about his comment, I agreed we should not miss the point of this combination recording, which was to make one smooth, seamless recording of the show. So here it is in its pristine quality including the missing track "I Want You" for all those who wanted it uncut and complete.

I didn't change anything, just added the missing track, so I had to rename the files after the following model:

bd&gd1987july24sbdaud.t01.flac

I was trying not to mess it up, preserving most part of the old nomenclature by keeping the previous rutine as much as possible.

below is the original info file:

This is an upgrade over what was posted at:

This new copy is a combination of known lineage soundboard and audience sources edited together to make a better-sounding and less cut up new version. Unfortunately a song had to be removed due to official release but it's not too obvious when listening to it that way, and it then still fits on a single CD. Excellent sound quality, especially considering the completely different sounding sources that are spliced together between virtually every song - check the samples to decide for yourself how it sounds.

01 [05:50] The Times They Are A-Changin'
02 [04:55] Man Of Peace
03 [05:22] Maggie's Farm
04 [04:42] I'll Be Your Baby Tonight [Jerry Garcia on pedal steel guitar]
05 [04:59] I Want You
06 [04:50] Highway 61 Revisited [Jerry Garcia on slide guitar]
07 [06:25] It's All Over Now Baby Blue
08 [07:03] Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again
09 [05:53] Ballad Of A Thin Man
10 [06:12] Shelter From The Storm
11 [05:10] Slow Train
12 [09:42] Knockin' On Heaven's Door
encores:
13 [06:25] Touch of Grey [with Bob Dylan on guitar] [this song is from the audience source]
14 [06:27] All Along The Watchtower

Bob Dylan - guitar, vocals
Jerry Garcia - guitar, vocals

LINEAGE:
Primary source: Soundboard Sony multi-track PCM master > mixdown cassette [recorded on Sony TCD5M] > Sony F1 PCM Beta tape > Beta PCM clone > CD [digital transfer to HHB standalone].

with splices from:
Secondary source: Dead soundman Dan Healy's audience master - microphones hung in front of the house sound booth above the crowd > Sony F1 PCM Beta tape master > Beta PCM clone > CD [digital transfer to HHB standalone].

Combination REMASTER info:
CD's received in trade > Macintosh with DigiDesign AudioMedia III soundcard > Pro Tools [speed match, seamless edits, normalization and tracking] > AIFF > xACT (FLAC level 8 files with sector boundaries verified). md5 file created with checkSUM+. No equalization or noise reduction was used in the remastering process.

Notes: The six summer 1987 Dylan/Dead shows were interesting because it seems that the majority of Bob Dylan fans who weren't also Grateful Dead fans thought it to be a low point in Bob Dylan's career while Dylan himself and the Dead band members loved the experience, as did the Deadheads of course.

The problem for Dylan's fans was that although the musicians had run through a huge number of songs during the early June rehearsals, nothing was heavily practiced and the Dead members had no clue of the setlists until shortly before each show. None of this bothered Dylan, The Dead or the Deadheads much, but Dylan fans who wanted a slick backing band were disappointed. But just to get to see Jerry Garcia play pedal steel guitar with Bob Dylan made it a highlight for me - even if it was in a stadium!

The mastering deck for the soundboard recording was a Sony digital multitrack wide tape PCM format. Since an album was planned, mixed down preview copies were made on cassettes for Dylan and the Dead members to pick out which songs would be used for the album release.

I really like the way this torrent turned out despite the number of edits.

A scan of ticket stub and a photo of the poster are included with the download.
