hansokolow's notes:

I lived in Germany as an exchange student in '88-'89, and had visited Berlin in January of '89. No one would have believed that the Berlin wall would come down in October, or that the country would be unified soon after. Though I wasn't lucky enough to attend any of the Europe shows, this one really resonates for me, because of what was happening at the time, incredible world events. Particularly Samson and Delilah, Ship of Fools, and Throwing Stones all have powerful lyrics and themes that speak to the times. And the playing throughout is pretty phenomenal: the introspective Dark Star is spread out over Drums and Space and is filled with mystery. I took a stab at the 10/19 show as well, but did not come out at all right, so sorry, but don't expect to see a matrix of that one by me.

In general there are a lot of effects on the vocals and the drums in this show, mostly it's an echo effect. Sometimes things sound a bit muddy, but I made sure the matrixing process wasn't amplifying the effect. Also, I EQed out a very strong hiss on the AUD.

Digibuzzing in Jack Straw on the DSBD at 2:36 for less than a second, which I cut out.

Crowd noise missing from the DSBD between Walking Blues and FOTD, between FOTD and B. T. Wind, between Jack-A-Roe and Masterpiece, and between Masterpiece and Let It Grow.

Due to a tapeflip, there is crowd noise missing from the AUD after Black-Throated Wind, as well as the first 15 seconds of Jack-A-Roe.

There was a split-second glitch on the AUD in the intro to Masterpiece at 0:38 that I cut out.

There is a jump in the crowd noise on the AUD in Space at 2:02 that I left in.

There is a pop at 2:39 in Space, but it's on both sources, so I left it.

I put the NFA crowd chant and the encore at the end of disc one, for weirdos like me who still use cds. But of course, it's seamless if you want to put it back together.
