Noteworthy Versions of Ordinary Songs (A Collection)

This is a collection of noteworthy versions of ordinary songs played
by the Grateful Dead. You might ask, did the Grateful Dead every play
"ordinary" songs? Or you might ask, where is the cutoff line that
makes these songs ordinary but makes other songs you might like better
either more or less than ordinary? Or you might ask, well given your
notion of "ordinary", why aren't my favorite versions of these songs
on the list? Or you might ask, well, how did I get here? and is this
my beautiful wife? And I would answer, I know what you mean, and I
have no idea, and you know how this works, and don't even go there.

Be all that as it may, this collection is based on a list put together
by Eric Wybenga and published in his book _Dead To The Core: An
Almanac of the Grateful Dead_. If you have any complaints about the
makeup of the collection, please notify the publisher of that book.

The track names are self-explanatory: they list the date of the
performance, the SHNID of the source, and shortened names of the songs
included in the track. More often than not, these ordinary songs could
be cleanly disentangled from their neighbors. When they seemed to be
integral parts of larger jams, though, I included the other songs
too. I joined tracks with "shntool join", and then I retracked and
added simple fades using Wavelab. I fixed up the resulting tracks
using shntool strip, and then I compressed the files using "flac
--best". I used shntool version 3.0.2, flac version 1.2.1, and Wavelab
version 6.
