Grand Ol' Opry

Armed Forces Radio Transcriptions

A friend who's Father works for WSM suprised me with a rare batch of Transcripts
of radio shows recorded and pressed to Disc and sent abroad to
Armed Forces radio for rebroadcast to the soldiers at war.

These were drawn from the original aluminum stampers and shellac discs
The quality is not by any means stellar. The raveges of time are obvious in certain
places. What you do get are rare performances of the hits of the day by artists of the day.

There are 2 - 3 shows per cdr. All are from center stage of the Rhyman Auditorium, The Grand Ol' Opry.... live from Music City, Nashville Tennessee.

I have been researching these all day and find no indication that they ever were released comercially at any time.

My guess would be (Along with research done on Volume 1 by 71whit ) that these recordings by virtue of song release date are all circa the Viet Nam era. That's about as close as it can be guessed, other than it was a Saturday night....

Here we go, step back in time to being a lonely soldier on foreign soil serving his country, and tuning in the radio to hear a little bit of home.

Last disc.. no artists are listed in the notes that were sent with this disc.
I imagine it's a "Best Of" culled from the previous 15 discs.

I would appreciate any listeners with a kean ear, adding names to the track list

It has been a pleasure upping these for everyone here. I have had these on my trade list for over 6 years and no one had even sniffed at it.. so it's great to see that all in all almost 3000 downloads took place on these 15 discs.

Cheers to all!

Enjoy!
