Wholly Crap Folks!!!!! I was familiar with Link from the song "Rumble". It had been used for a few movies recently.
When it was announced he would be in Tampa, I thought, "Hey, fifteen bucks to see one of the original shredders, great!"
I was not prepared for the sonic assault that I witnessed that night. This was the first concert I recorded. I should have brought
earplugs. He plays LOUD!
The opening act had left the stage about an hour or so and no Link. I later found out he showed up right before heading out to the stage,
collected his fee, blew the house down, and left. Now this man was 73 years old when he played this show. He doesn't do any vocals
on the tracks, but talks to the audience between songs. At times, he seems a bit senile (playing "Rumble" 3 times), but I'll say it again,
Wholly Crap Folks!!!!! - this man rocks - HARD!! At his age, If he wants to play "Rumble" all night, I'll be there.
He came on late and played up until the curfew, so there was no encore. This is an interesting document of a totally underrated guitar player
who is still out there playing. if he comes to your town, by all means, go see him, you will not be sorry!
This was the first of many recordings I've made at Skipper's. A nice outside venue in Tampa.
It sounds good, a real "in your face" show, but as always with sound quality, your mileage may vary. This is my 6th torrent..many more to come.
Special thanks to two un-named folks who e-mailed me pics they took at the show in trade for a copy.
