The Moody Blues Live at the Philadelphia Spectrum 1970-12-03 SOUNDBOARD mp3 sample
Thanks to Mr. Clay Pitts Road for the tape. His and my birthday are the same. He used to talk about "liberating a copy" of something from me, as if it were in prison. The last I had heard, after counselling troubled teens in recovery houses, he had grown a beard and was communing with nature out in the woods somewhere in the American Northwest.
I am *NOT* making this up as I go along!!! LOL
If you are still out there bud, the number's still the same... and I'd be glad to discuss whatever you'd like.
This concert is from a trader's tape I received with a wink many years ago. The location in Philadelphia is genuine, you can hear the band mention it. The date and location was provided courtesy of a *very rabid* Moody Blues fan, whose permission I don't yet have to thank personally. Another note: The date 1970-11-11 was also floated as being possible for this show.
This tape has one more bonus:
It's more complete.
It runs 1:02:54, give or take, and has extra songs.
I need to tell you a little bit about what I have had to do to make this a more pleasant listening experience for you all. The speed originally ran horribly slow. The song "Melancholy Man" was pitched to another version that I know to be running correctly. The soundboard is very hisssssy. "Dead Space" noise reduction was used to try to minimize the noise. What's that, you may ask? I have been using that term for a while:
There are three types of noise in a tape recording (let's leave vinyl out of this discussion).
1.) The noise caused by the recorder while the recording is going on
2.) The noise caused by the record heads before the music gets pushed through (on initial contact with the tape there's a slight pause before the recording begins when the heads are energized)
3.) The noise caused when neither 1 or 2 are present.
#3 represents the lowest noise level in the recording, and is "Dead Space" noise. It also assumes the tape was bulked before recording began, which is most of the time.
If I take the noise at its lowest level, sample and remove 12db of that, I stand much less of a chance of affecting the music signal. I don't want it at its highest level, that will definitely affect the music. If any more questions about that, either PM me, or ask in the torrent. The NR made the music more defined and brighter.
There are a few flaws in this recording. The very beginning of "Gypsy" is cut, and the sound of that particular song isn't as good as the rest of the show. The very end of Have You Heard? Pt 2 is also cut. There is slight interference from other music during Legend Of a Mind.
This is a great, great show!!
