Show notes:
1)Line up: Steve; Reed Mathis - bass; Robert Walters - keys; Rodney Holmes - drums
2)First time Steve has played Tucson (finally!)
3)Reed Mathis birthday show!!!
4)Club Congress is a small club on the ground floor of the historic Hotel Congress in
downtown Tucson. They had the tapers section in front of the board, which is in the back
and off to the right a bit.
5)sounds great - very happy with recording - "A-" at a minimum quality wise
6)I have seen Rodney Holmes over the years in various jazz bands and have always been
impressed with him, but this night he reached the top echelon of drummers for me (along
with Jack Dejohnette, Peter Erskine, etc). It was perhaps the greatest drumming exhibition
I have ever witnessed!!! in about 1000 live shows that I've seen. I heard that Rodney was
in a real lousy mood pre-show because his room upstairs in the hotel had no TV, air conditioner
and other conveniences that he's used to getting on the road, so perhaps he took out on the skins!!!
(No Hotel Congess rooms have these modern conveniences - it's part of their "historic" package).
7)The show itself was quite excellent.
8)I decided not to do a partial setlist, so if anyone can help with the full setlist it would
be appreciated. I know they did "Glad" by Traffic, which another taper told me was the first
time they ever performed it - not sure if this is true, but it was a pleasant surprise.
