Tut Taylor Archive Reel #180 is labeled "Kallie Jean Widener, Aiken, SC", and features her singing a number of her own songs backed by electric guitar, bass, drums, and Tut's Dobro. Given the typical vintage of many of Tut's reels and the focus on the brief Tut radio spot which follows, I'd guess that this was recorded circa mid-1960s. Tut's Dobro really gives the band a nice bounce. Try as I might, I couldn't find any information on Kallie Jean; seems that there were never any formal issues of her fine singing. The tape ends with a short radio spot with Tut talking about his 1965 World Pacific LP "Dobro Country" recorded in California with Clarence and Roland White.

Please note: all of the song titles for Kallie Jean Widener are my best guesses, and are listed primarily as tracking references.

The tape is a 7.5 inch per second mono recording. The acetate reel was played
on a modified Revox A77 reel-to-reel machine with a Reutelhuber custom designed and
built tape head preamplifier incorporating 2003 era technology and components
including all metal film resistors, polypropelene coupling capacitors, and low ESR
electrolytic supply bypass capacitors. The resulting analog signal was digitized
by a Mytek Digital 8X96 analog to digital converter using Steinberg Nuendo as the
recording software and saved as a 24 bit 48 kHz wave file.

Post processing and was done by David Avery with Nuendo using the
following Waves Plugins: Q10, X-Hum, S1 Shuffler and L3. The file was dithered
down to a 16 bit/44.1kHz wave file.
